About the Event

King’s Economics and Finance Society is delighted to invite you to our event: ‘Is this a new variant of capitalism? or are we being taken over by Techno-feudalism?’, featuring Yanis Varoufakis, the former Greek Finance Minister!

Yanis Varoufakis began his professional academic career by teaching at the universities of Essex, East Anglia and Cambridge between 1982 and 1988. He taught at the University of Sydney, as well as the University of Athens, where he was promoted to a full professor. He has also published a number of texts in economics and game theory, such as ‘The Global Minotaur’.

In 2015, he was appointed Greek Minister of Finance and led negotiations with Greece’s creditors and the European troika. He has since remained a vocal participant in the ongoing debates and is still a member of the Hellenic Parliament.

Dr. Varoufakis will be speaking about “techno-feudalism” - what it is and what its rise entails for market capitalism and the entities centered around it. Among the underlying focal points will be the unusual unidirectional shifts in share and bond prices, as well as the relationship between the volatility and cost of capital.

Do not miss out on this exciting opportunity to learn from his valuable insights, as well as ask questions to participate in the debate - sign up here!

We look forward to seeing you there!
